The Pharos
The Pharos was a famous lighthouse in the time of the Roman Empire. It was an extremely grand structure, measuring over 440 feet high. There was also a fire constantly alight at the top of the lighthouse. At the base of the lighthouse were statues of Ptolemy II and his queen. Sadly, after a number of earthquakes, the lighthouse was badly damaged and the remnants disappeared in the year 1480. A fort was built on the site of The Pharos with some of its fallen stone.
